The story behind the artwork
It’s been a season of ladybugs around our house — and in our hearts. Every time the kids find one, they come running to me: “Jesus sent you another ladybug!” Because somewhere along the way, I told them that He does.
Even in the cold of winter, these little sonbesies sit so peacefully, basking in the warmth of the sun. I find myself doing the same with a good book: simply sitting in the warmth and allowing myself to be Son-baked. Because perhaps the little things aren’t so little after all.
The heart-shaped shell will forever remind me of this season of being a mom, of time spent with my children. A reminder that no work, no task and no achievement is more important than the time I have been given with the little lovebugs God entrusted to me.
The red reminds me of the blood of Jesus, covering our black spots, our sinful nature. It reminds me of His mercy: not giving us what we deserve, but covering us with what only He could give. And that little heart shape reminds me of the posture of my own heart.
Then there is one last thing I love about a ladybug. When one lands on your hand, watch it. It climbs onto your finger, higher and higher until it reaches the very tip. And then… it flies. What a beautiful little life lesson.
God has surrounded us with reminders of Himself. Creation speaks of its Creator. He teaches us in the grand things, yes — but perhaps also in the tiny things we so easily walk past. The question is: are we listening?
So when you see a ladybug again, may it make you stop for a moment. And remember: How great Thou art.
